Mechanical Engineer

Total responsibility to handle mechanical segment of machine engineering projects for new or refurbished Coperion Twin Screw Extruder machinery, with applicable process and auxiliary equipment.   Typical assigned projects start at order hand over from sales and continue through shipment of the Extruder equipment to customer plant site. Some follow up communication is required during machine installation and startup phase.   Coperion, a Hillenbrand company, is an industry leader in compounding and extrusion, feeding and weighing, bulk material handling and service, bringing a wealth of know-how and experience to the market. Customers benefit from Coperion's divisions of Compounding & Extrusion, Equipment & Systems, Materials Handling and Service that are optimally networked on a global basis to offer ultimate support in the design, manufacturing and implementation of ideal systems.    Responsibilities Maintain project schedule, costs and engineering budgets Sales support for design, cost estimating, & proposal drawings, for spare parts, re-furbished and new machines Attend order kick off meetings Attend customer meetings with Coperion sales or project management for technical support Calculate and size Extruder clutch couplings Specify purchased power transmission components Specify metric bolts, washers, casters, leveling feet, tube fittings, NPT fittings, piping,  hoses and other mechanical components for machine integration Specify special purchased MECO Extruder shaft seals and associated nitrogen purge panels  Specify Extruder heaters  Work with Coperion electrical engineering to specify Extruder motors and Instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, proximity switches, signal transmitters, level switches, flow meters, solenoids & strain gauges. Work with Coperion electrical engineering on machine controls interface Review and specify auxiliary equipment such as cooling units, vacuum pumps, vent port degassing units, chillers, hot water and hot oil units. Review, specify and/or work with Coperion systems engineering to interface process equipment with the Extruder such as upstream feeding equipment and downstream screen changers, melt pumps, pelletizers, drum coolers, cooling belts, etc Oversee and check CAD designer on Extruder manifolds, base frames, coupling guards, barrel covers, machine subassemblies, P & I diagrams, and project specific machine installation and foundation drawings Outside shop inspections of manufactured parts and assemblies Provide Coperion shop with drawing package release and general assistance when needed during machine assemblies and component assemblies. Check Extruder machine project manuals for completion and accuracy prior to shipment to the customer Use Coperion MRP- QAD data base for establishing part no's, BOM's, cost estimating, Engineering Manhour reports. Interface with Coperion parent company engineers in Stuttgart, Germany when needed Access and use Coperion Stuttgart SAP data base for obtaining Drawings, BOM's & costing Access and use Coperion Stuttgart machine engineering standards & corresponding Technical Standards Use Coperion ProjectWise Document Manager for drawings, projects and standards CAD - MicroStation/AutoCAD/SolidWorks ability to create drawings when needed for special designs, modifications and assistance to the Coperion CAD Designers. MS Excel - cost estimating, engineering hours trending, engineering calculations, metrics, updating and creating engineering standards MS Word - specification "write ups" for engineering and sales Travel 20-30%  Other duties as assigned General background of engineering and manufacturing processes BS in Engineering - Mechanical preferred Familiarity with German, or Spanish language a plus Minimum 5 years mechanical engineering and design experience Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills ERP Software experience preferred - QAD or SAP a plus. Proficiency in CAD software - AutoCAD and SolidWorks (MicroStation a plus) MS Excel, Word, and Project Experience with machinery power transmission, motors, couplings, torque calculations, structural steel fabrication, machined parts, metallurgy Knowledge of twin screw Extruders and/or associated equipment a plus Knowledge of Lean practices Thorough knowledge of ISO drawing standards including ISO Tolerances for shaft and bore fits, ISO surface finishes, ISO geometric dimensioning and tolerances. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
